In 2001, Sheila Stevens had the vision to somehow make a difference while honoring her mother, Joan Glover, who died as the result of cancer. From this vision and the help of her friends and neighbors from TPC @ Sugarloaf, “Volley for a Cure” was born. What started as a small group of 56 women playing tennis for a purpose has now extended to ten venues and over 600 participants from North Metro Atlanta. Volley for a Cure found a new name, “VolleyFest” in 2005, and is the cornerstone of The Sport of Giving. Each spring, hundreds of participants gather for friendly tennis competition, breast health education and inspiration from speakers who are breast cancer survivors. This event is about neighborhoods banding together to make a difference in their community by combining time, effort and resources with the sport of tennis to make an even bigger difference! |
